How the TGS Helps

TGS helps girls in a variety of ways. Generally speaking, TGS helps to Identify girls that are already survivors and help connect them with the treatment that they need and deserve. People who obtain treatment soon after the abuse occurs are more likely to fully recover and less likely to experience a myriad of negative consequences from the abuse.

Connect girls in American to young female sexual violence survivors around the world via emails, letters and pictures. Friendship – a subset of what the literature calls ‘social support’ – is one of the #1 factors in helping people heal from sexual violence.

Educate girls about sexual abuse/assault. The more they know about the risk factors of sexual abuse as well as the protective factors and what contributes to resilience, the better able they are to protect themselves and each other.

TGS achievies these ambitions by working with girls in our after school program. We are actively working toward having a TGS Club in every high school in America. This club consists of a facilitator from the school and girls who are interested in talking about issues relevant to their experience of being a female in America. The topics range from healthy romantic relationships, friendship issues, drugs and alcohol, self-esteem, sexual violence, assertiveness, media, and all sorts of other issues that impact teenage girls.
