After School Program

The Global Sisterhood is actively working toward having a TGS Chapter in every high school in America. The after-school club consists of a facilitator from the school and girls who are interested in talking about issues relevant to their experience of being a female in America. The topics range from healthy romantic relationships, friendship issues, drugs and alcohol, self-esteem, sexual violence, assertiveness, media, and all sorts of other issues that impact teenage girls.

FAQs

Why would I want my school to participate?

If you're a teenage girl, you want this program in your school because it's fun! We get together every week and talk with other girls about things YOU care about, like love, friendship and family. You also recognize how important this is. You might know someone who has been hurt by a family member or friend and you know that girls could use some extra support.

If you're a teacher, social worker or an administrator at a school, you want this program at your school because you see a real need in your students. You know first hand the issues and challenges that teenage girls face. You've had girls come to you and tell you heart-wrenching stories about their pain. You see it in their eyes...you see it in their grades. You know that girls could use some extra help navigating this world.

I'm confused...isn't this program just for girls who have been sexually abused?

Not at all! At TGS, we know that sexual abuse/assault is a complicated problem that requires a complex and well-thought out solution. Girls that are sexually abused can struggle in many areas of their lives, including academically, socially and occupationally. But girls who haven't been abused could also benefit! Girls who are not survivors still need help with being able to assert themselves, make good decisions, commit to an education, and choose healthy relationships and all of these things make a girl less likely to experience abuse in the future.

That all sounds pretty great. How do I start a TGS Chapter at my school?

It's easy...just email us at theglobalsisterhood@gmail.com. Let us know a little bit about you and your school as well as an address to send a marketing packet to and you're on your way!
