The Global Sisterhood is a progressive not-for-profit organization with several ambitious goals.  The umbrella goal, underneath which all of our strivings come from, is to change the culture that allows sexual abuse to continue, affecting 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 6 boys.  Girls in America, and all over the world, are raised to be passive, agreeable, and docile.  They are raised to put others need in front of their own; to be friendly and "sweet" even in the face of possible danger; to think that their voice, thoughts and opinions do not matter as much as their male counterparts; to blame themselves even when they are the victim.  The Global Sisterhood strives to change that.  Through advocacy, awareness and empowerment, The Global Sisterhood tries to engender self-esteem, assertiveness and a commitment to education in all of the girls in our program.  And when a girl is confident, educated, loved and supported, she is less likely to be sexually assaulted and more likely to heal if she does become a sexual violence survivor.
